Gord Shields, Head Coach

Gord ShieldsLongtime Sharks coach Gord Shields has returned as head coach after a brief hiatus.

Gord has been coaching swimming since 1990, when he got his start with the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Flying Fins. Since that time he has been head coach of the Prince Albert Sharks, and the Saskatoon Lasers. He is a fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach.

Gord's swimmers have always performed well. He has been head coach of the Provincial Small Team Champions fourteen times, and has had many national and provincial champions and record setters under his wing.

In addition to his regular duties, Gord has been active on the provincial and national coaching scene. He was the head coach for Team Saskatchewan Special Olympics from 2000 to 2005, and the assistant coach for Team Canada at the Special Olympics World Games in Dublin in 2003, as well as coaching for the Special Olympics High Performance Committee. He has been assistant coach for Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Games in 2001 and 2005, as well as taking on head coaching duties for Team Saskatchewan at the Western Canada Summer Games in Edmonton in 2007 and coaching for the Swim Sask High Performance team for a number of years.

Recently, Gord has been working with Swim Saskatchewan, Special Olympics Saskatchewan, and Swim Saskatchewan High Performace Committee as a Coach and Sport Technical Adviser. He has also worked as a learning facilitator and skills coach assessor for Swim Sask and Swim Canada.

Among Gord's honours and awards are the Swim Sask Coaches Association Coach of the Year award for 1999/2000 and the Swim Canada National Domestic Coaching Excellence Award for 2003.

Roger Boucher, Assistant Coach

Roger swam competitively for 17 years. He was on the Sask First team and placed top 16 at Nationals in the 100 and 50 Breast. Roger has been to the World Cup in Edmonton. He received silver medals for 3 years in the Medley relay at CIS Championships and placed 3rd in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:02.90 (provincial record) at CIS championships in 2001. Roger holds the long course provincial records for both the 50 and 100 Breast and the short course record for 100 Breast.

He hopes to bring the experiences that he had to the swimmers that he coaches to make them better. He is now coaching the Green Squad and the Makos.

Sharon Lyons, Swim Quest 2

Sharon brings a lot of coaching experience to our team. She is a NCCP Level 2 Certified coach and coached the summer swimming Nipawin Lions Swim Team for 17 years. She also has experience coaching Special Olympics swimmers.

Sharon also continues to swim for enjoyment and competitively as a Masters swimmer and has competed provincially and nationally at Masters competitions.
